9:00 - 9:30 | Working Sessions on Exchange Network Reinvigoration - Part 1

Dwane Young, Deputy Director, Office of Information Management, U.S. EPA
Joe Carioti, U.S. EPA Office of Information Management
Roy Chaudet, U.S. EPA Office of Information Management

  • The Exchange Network has served as a key platform for sharing data among States, Tribes, and U.S. EPA for more than two decades. Building on that long history, the Exchange Network is embarking on an effort to reinvigorate the partnership and modernize its technology so that it continues to meet the data needs of environmental protection agencies. This evolution will augment the current Exchange Network standards and tools with modern technologies such as Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and refreshed approaches to making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).

This working session will be an opportunity for the Exchange Network community to build on what we've learned in the first two days of E2i and begin charting a path toward a reinvigorated and modern Exchange Network.

Participants will consider and provide input on:

    • a shared vision for the future of the Exchange Network,

    • high-level principles around data sharing,

    • key business needs for sharing environmental data,

    • adoption of modern technology standards, and

    • ways to modernize Exchange Network technology while meeting EN partners where they are.

The outputs of these working sessions will tee up the important questions that need to be answered and help inform our next steps to building collaborative solutions.
